In the elevator ride up to my office floor yesterday, I opened my phone and read the following-
“Georgio Armani, Italy’s Fashion ‘King,’ Has Died.”
In an instant, I was taken back to Milan. To that extraordinary place where fashion, beauty, art, maturity, and class all came together in one space- one building. To the place that made tears almost immediately roll down my face as I stood in amazement staring at what was before me.
I don’t think I ever appreciated Georgio Armani, his brand, and his work enough until that moment.
My artistic lens and general life genuinely has not been the same since I stepped foot in Armani/Silos- and I’m thankful for that.
Crazy enough, after my heart sank a little following the news, I couldn’t help but crack the smallest little smile. One thing that I remember fondly is reading the backstory on why and how Armani/Silos was created. Typically, artists and designers only end up in museums or have exhibits made of their work after they’re gone. They have no say in how their work is curated or presented. Mr. Armani didn’t want that.
While he was still around, he wanted to share his clothes, visions, and values with the world- in his way.
So yes, I smiled- because he accomplished that before the somber happenings of yesterday. The Armani/Silos are still there and will forever be there to display his work-
Just as Maestro Georgio Armani wanted.
